FAQs

What is the typical power usage for AI data centres?
AI and high-performance compute (HPC) data centres typically operate at power densities between 30 kW and 80 kW per rack, with overall site demand ranging from 1 MW to 50 MW+ depending on the scale of deployment. At JLM Energy, we design scalable power infrastructure that supports both edge compute clusters and full hyperscale developments, ensuring optimal efficiency and power utilisation across all phases of expansion.
How long does it take to build a modular data centre?
Timelines depend on capacity and location, but most modular or containerised data centres can be deployed within 16 – 24 weeks from design approval to commissioning. Our approach integrates parallel construction and factory pre-fabrication, allowing on-site works, electrical installation, and testing to progress simultaneously. Larger, purpose-built facilities typically take 6 – 12 months to complete.
How do you integrate renewables and battery systems with the grid?
we deliver complete renewable-plus-storage solutions by combining solar PV systems, battery energy storage (BESS), and advanced grid interconnection design. Our team manages all utility and regulatory approvals with local authorities such as DEWA, ADDC, and FEWA, ensuring compliance with UAE grid codes and protection standards. We also implement smart hybrid control systems to maintain grid stability and optimise energy flow. The result is a reliable, cost-efficient, and sustainable power solution that reduces grid reliance, cuts operating costs, and helps businesses achieve their net-zero and sustainability goals across the UAE
What uptime or SLAs do you guarantee?
Our data-centre power designs are built around Tier III and Tier IV principles, ensuring 99.982 – 99.995 % uptime. We specify N+1 or 2N redundancy on critical systems including power, cooling, and backup supply. Tailored SLAs can be structured around client needs, covering planned maintenance, fault response, and remote monitoring through our engineering support network.
What is the typical cost per kWₜ (CapEx) for design and build in the UAE?
Capital costs in the UAE depend on the project scope, system specification, and redundancy requirements. As a general reference: Modular or containerised AI compute facilities: from AED 28,000 – AED 42,000 per kWₜ Purpose-built Tier III – IV data centres: from AED 42,000 – AED 65,000 per kWₜ At JLM Energy AE, our fully integrated EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model helps reduce capital expenditure through in-house system design, renewable energy integration, and local project management—delivering high-efficiency infrastructure at highly competitive costs across the UAE and wider GCC region.
